Type 1 diabetes in children, adolescents and young adults
Starting to take care of diabetes. How to take care of our diabetes. Diabetes: some basic notions. How does our body work?
This book practically exposes everything you need to know in order to take good care of your diabetes. Having diabetes means seeing yourself in need of learning more about this condition than any general doctor can know and being able to understand and make appropriate decisions in the day-to-day care of the disease. This is a necessary condition both to enjoy life in the present and to avoid or postpone possible complications in the long term. Current research leaves no doubt that maintaining adequate blood glucose levels reduces the risk of developing long-term complications as a result of diabetes nurses, diabetological educators, doctors, nutritionists, teachers and others in the care of children with diabetes. In some cases the author speaks directly to the child or young person with diabetes. Other times he addresses his parents and family. Sometimes the information is intended for third parties, such as members of the medical team that treats diabetes. We could imagine, as we read the book, everyone sitting around a table exchanging and sharing information, but the most important message, always present throughout the text, is that it is one who is in charge of his own life and should not allow diabetes to control it. To achieve this one must learn how to manage treatment in the face of the different situations that arise day by day.
The author is a pediatric advisor at Uddevalla Hospital in Sweden, specializing in diabetes and has been actively involved in the drafting of the International Society for Pediatric and Adolescent Diabetes (ISPAD) Guidelines for the Treatment of Type 1 Diabetes in Children and Adolescents 2000.
